Lee
and Karen Duquette
went to the Lights of Liberty Drone Show
at City Lake Park
in Albemarle, North Carolina
on June 5, 2026 |
NO
NO NO - Lee and Karen Duquette will NEVER recommend this event to anyone
unless they live in the area. It was not worth the 2-hour drive from South
Carolina for sure. There were so many people, that many people were not
even able to get food from the food trucks - including Lee and Karen who
saw several people throwing the food away instead of eating it.
But enjoy the photos below and
learn about this event. |

Below: Karen Duquette
was not sure why two skeletons were in somebody's yard, since it was the
beginning of June, NOT Halloween time. But Karen snapped a couple of photos
as Lee Duquette drove past the skeletons without stopping. |

It was advertised
that the first 800 people to arrive would get a USA Flag (one per couple).
The flag had a light button on it that gave three different ways to enjoy
the light. Of course, Karen Duquette managed to get a flag. |

Below: After Lee
and Karen Duquette arrived, they walked around the area and Karen took
a few photos. |

Below: Finally it was time for the music show before the drones. The
group was called "Heartbreaker" and Stacy McBeth
was the female singer. She said the group has been together for 20 years.
Lee and Karen Duquette thought that the band was ok, but they were NOT
impressed with Stacy's singing. The first three songs she sang could
not even be heard by the people sitting near Lee and Karen Duquette.
Finally someone complained and the band turned their volume up. But,
In Karen's opinion, Stacy was not that great of a singer. And she did
not even dress in a great looking outfit.

Finally, it was time for the Drone Show, which was the reason Lee
and Karen Duquette came here. But they were totally disappointed because
the drones did NOT go out into the open sky space. Instead
they stayed partially BEHIND TREES. As can be seen in the below pictures,
this was a BIG disappointed to many people and sure was not worth the
drive here for Lee and Karen Duquette. Several people even LEFT left
before the drone show was over. Karen took photos and posted them below,
even though she was extremely unhappy with the show because she could
not see the drones clearly.

Leaving here was a real problem. Although Lee and Karen Duquette got
to their car quickly, Karen had to stand behind the car to tell people
to let Lee get out of his parking spot. Once he did, they thought they
would just drive slowly out of there even though people were walking
real close to their car. Some people even banged their fist on the car.
But within minutes, the line of cars stopped for quite awhile. It took
a very long time before the line of cars started to move again, and
by then the people walking had already walked way up front and many
got in their cars and fought their way into the front of the line. But
where Lee Duquette's car was, the line was not moving for quite awhile.
Then when they finally got to the roadside, they were directed to
the left instead of to the right. This was the wrong way and it was
a one lane in each direction, very dark outside with NO street lights
and the ride was scary. It was not long before they were almost the
only car going in that direction, and whenever there was an oncoming
car, Lee and Karen were blinded and that made the ride scary.
Many times it was hard to actually know where the road was because
it curved right and left a lot. At one point, Karen yelled "stop
now" and of course Lee did and he realized they were inches
in front of a stone wall. But Lee saw the highway and everything was
okay from that point on.
They decided that they will not be doing night driving anymore. And
they would not recommend this event to anyone in the future, unless
they are local people, of course.
