Lee
and Karen Duquette drove through Illinois, past the Superman water tower
and other water towers, then past the Missouri Arch in St. Louis, the
Ferris wheel and more in Kansas City, Missouri - June 25, 2025 |
Metropolis, Illinois, located by the Ohio River with a population
of roughly 6,000 residents was officially recognized in 1972 by DC Comics
as the hometown of the legendary Superman. Lee and Karen Duquette quickly
drove past the water tower shown below in 2025 and Karen snapped a quick
photo of the water tower. But they
had actually visited the town of Metropolis in 2009.

Below: Then Lee Duquette drove past the Missouri Arch, which they
also visited in 1987, 2009, 2017 and 2022 when they took a ride inside
the Missouri Arch to the top where they got to view the surrounding
area. Of course they also visited many other things in the area on each
visit, and that is why they have a menu on this website, TOC-USA-states.html
(then scroll down to Missouri) to see everything
they did in Missouri, including the ride up in the Missouri Arch.
Note: The Gateway Arch became a National Park in 2018.
