The
United States Naval Academy (also known as USNA, Annapolis, or Navy)
is a four-year coeducational federal service academy located in Annapolis,
Maryland. Established in 1845 under Secretary of the Navy, George Bancroft,
it is the second-oldest of the United States' five service academies,
and educates officers for commissioning primarily into the United States
Navy and United States Marine Corps. The 338-acre campus is located
on the former grounds of Fort Severn at the confluence of the Severn
River and Chesapeake Bay, approximately 33 miles east of Washington,
D.C. and 26 miles southeast of Baltimore, Maryland. The entire campus
is a National Historic Landmark and home to many historic sites, buildings,
and monuments.
Everyone 18 and older must have a photo ID. Only vehicles with USNA
IDs, DoD stickers or handicapped tags may enter Naval Academy grounds.
The Visitor Center is the first stop on a visit to the undergraduate
college of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. Information specialists
welcome visitors to view the 13-minute film, Call to Serve, and to take
a guided walking tour with a professional, certified guide. |

Although the two RV Gypsies did not explore the grounds on this date,
Karen Duquette wanted her photo taken at the entry, just because she
had served in the U.S. Navy - just not here of course.

In 2013 just
Barbara Stern and Karen Duquette took a quick tour here. But in 2019,
Barbara and Bob Stern gave the two RV Gypsies a more extensive tour
of this U.S. Naval Academy. |

In 2013: Bill the Goat is the mascot of the United
States Naval Academy. The mascot is a live goat and is also represented
by a costumed midshipman. There is also a bronze statue of the goat
just inside Gate 1, the main gate to the Academy grounds. This statue
also plays a role in "Army Week" traditions.
